GREENVILLE, KY., Jim Henry Langley, Sr., 83, of Greenville passed peacefully on June 28, 2024 and went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven. A lifelong resident of Muhlenberg Co, he was born January 9, 1941 in the Beechcreek community.
Jim attended Hughes-Kirk School in Beechmont as a child, was a member of Roland Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville for over forty years and a member of the Masonic Hazel Creek Lodge #842. Jim will long be remembered for his gentle voice, his big smile, wonderful stories, and tall tales he could dream up and tell. He had many good qualities of kindness, trustworthy, and dependable. Above all, he was a faithful Christian and a hard worker for his family all his life. He was reared on family meals around the dinner table, honest hard work, firm discipline and the expectation of good manners most every day. He continued that way of life in his marriage and instilled that in his children. He and Brenda married in June 1971 and reared their two children at home in Greenville. He loved to raise a vegetable garden, adamant about tilling, weeding and always raking out the footprints when finished. Together he and Brenda enjoyed visiting his brothers and sisters nearby and in Chicago. He spent twenty years working at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in housekeeping until he retired after a work accident permanently disabled him. Brenda was a homemaker always looking after Kim and Jim Henry, caring for her elderly mother whom they lived with, cooking meals and keeping house. Weekends were spent on yard work, porch swinging, strawberry milkshakes, and watching old Westerns on television.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alvis Bernie and Mary Magdalene Ellison Langley, and beloved wife of 33 years Brenda Lois Dukes Langley (2004), brothers James Albert Langley (2006), Sherman Earl Langley (2022), and Alvis Joe Langley (2022), sisters Anna Belle Langley (1954) and Louise Langley McElvain (2022) have gone on before him along with granddaughter, Whitney Ann Langley (2022)
He is survived by his brother William Harrison Langley (Judy), sisters Roberta Langley Derus and Georgia Faye Daniels, and his children Kim Langley Gott and Jim Henry Langley, Jr. (Audra). Jim is also survived by 5 grandchildren Trenton Michael Gott (Gretchen), Shanise Nicole Gott, Hunter Logan Gott (25), Harry Ellison Langley (6), and Mary Helen Langley (9 months). He leaves behind 4 great-grandchildren Sky LaShay Brown (10), Derek Lamar Noel (4), Devin LeeAnn Noel (2), and Makenna May Gott (8 months).
