Matthew David Howard, 37, of Owensboro passed away on June 22, 2024. Matthew was born on September 28th, 1986, in Daviess County, Kentucky as the firstborn child to Mark and Donna McCarty Howard. He resided in Owensboro, Kentucky with his family his whole life.
Matthew was an avid reader of sci-fi and fantasy novels, and playing video games with his close friends. His passion for all things Star Wars and Legend of Zelda began in childhood and continued into adulthood. His early years were spent earning badges and developing leadership skills with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a proud member of the DCHS Band of Pride drumline and 2005 graduate. He was a dedicated employee of UniFirst Corp since 2008.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James Michael McCarty and Theresa Rose Hagman McCarty, and his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth “Betty” Settles Howard.
Matthew is survived by his spouse, Aranatha Howard, stepson, Robert Goatee, and infant daughter, Vanessa Howard, parents, Mark and Donna Howard. Father-in-law Gholam Abbas Sattar Shamsabadi. Siblings, Rachel Howard Plummer and her children Davis and Darcy; Samuel Howard; Andrea Howard Curran (Matthew) their children Madelynn and Maisy; Elizabeth Howard; Nicholas Howard; Thomas Howard; paternal grandfather, James Douglas Howard and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly.
The family wishes to thank their community for their love and support during this time. Matthew will be remembered as a loving and devoted son, brother, father, and friend with a joyful wonder of all the beautiful things of the human imagination.
A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held on Friday, June 28th at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 5:00 p.m. with prayers at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations made payable to “Matthew Howard Family Fund” ℅ Mark or Donna Howard. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
