
Lura B. McElhearn, age 64, of Owensboro, completed her last adventure on June 16, 2024, in Cozumel, Mexico. She was born on August 1, 1959 in St. Lawrence, New York. Lura was a beloved Mother, Gigi, Sister, and Friend. Lura retired as a Captain in the United States Army and dedicated 29 years to Daviess County Public Schools, serving as a Student Assistant Coordinator. She also spent the three years as a substitute teacher after retiring from her coordinator role.
Lura was known for her vibrant personality and zest for life. She was cherished for her love of animals, her boisterous laugh, and her adventurous spirit. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, creating lasting memories with them. She worshiped at Encounter Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hugh A. McElhearn; and her mother, Lura J. McElhearn.
She will be deeply missed by her sons, Michael Pope and Marcus (Samantha) Pope; mother, Sally A. McElhearn; eight grandchildren, Meilani, Paisley, Maddox, Amariya, Meila, Evelyn, Elise, and Ivyina; sister, Debbie Galvin; and nephews, Danny and Ryan.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
Lura will be remembered fondly and held in the hearts of those who knew her until they are reunited with her in Heaven.
