
Bonnie F. Young Rhoads, 78, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday June 15, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her children and her favorite fur baby, Oreo. She was under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born on June 17, 1945, in Daviess County, to the late Marvin and Lily Bolton Young.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Young.
Bonnie worked as a cosmetologist in her early 20’s. She became a bus driver for the Owensboro Transit System in 1974. After many years she became the Transit Manager and was awarded Transit Manager of the Year in 2003 and was also inducted into the Kentucky Transit Hall of Fame. She retired after 29.5 years in 2003. Bonnie did not stay retired for long. She found a new love with JCPenney in 2004 and she spent 16 years working there. She retired again in 2020. Bonnie had a love for the gambling boat where she could spend hours playing wheel of fortune. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved traveling to the beach with her family.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her daughters, Cyndi (Marcus Robinson) Duvall, Sherri (Don) Oschwald, and Terri Rowland; a son, David (Amy) Evans Jr.; grandchildren, Courtney (Terrell Cline) Duvall, Courtland Duvall, Katelynn Evans, Skyler Evans, Haylee (Cody) McElveen, Courtnee Evans, and David Evans III; great-grandchildren, Caelyn, Chaynee, Haven, Rayden, Caden, Charlee, Oliver, Charlotte, and Booker; a brother, Dean (Pat) Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends who she considered family.
The funeral service for Bonnie Rhoads will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday June 19, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Mary Anne Joyce officiating. Entombment to follow in Christ Chapel at Owensboro Gardens. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
