
James L. (Jim) Stringer, a resident of Owensboro, passed away on June 12, 2024. He was born on June 10, 1932, in Windy Hollow, Daviess County, Kentucky, to the late W.D. (Wick) Stringer and Zelda (Bivins) Stringer. Jim dedicated 20 years to active military service in the United States Air Force, including three tours overseas during the Korean and Vietnam wars, with assignments in Greenland, Turkey, Thailand, the Philippines, and various stateside locations. He was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Windy Hollow, Kentucky. After his military service, Jim worked for Jagoe Homes from 1975 until his retirement in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Louise Mattingly Stringer, Oct. 2017; stepson, Barry Vollman; and step-grandson, Joseph Vollman.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Vicki Stringer Lawalin (Don); step-children, Kim Vollman Payne (Ronnie) and Karen Vollman Schauman (George); brother, Danny Stringer; sisters, Marcella Frantz (Late Bill) and Joyce Hulsey (late Randal); grandchildren, Curtis Gray (Kala), Krystal Lawalin Kuegel (Bryan); step-grandchildren, Heath Payne (Natalie), Chase Payne, Jenna Schauman Brock (Chris), Adara Schuman, Nick Lawalin (Allison), and Carrie Dutschke; 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral for Jim Stringer will be at 2:00 pm Monday, June 17, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with visitation from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Entombment with military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
