Pearlene Rates Baughman was born in Daviess County, Kentucky May 30, 1930 to the late Virginia McClaren Rates and Robert Rates. God called mama home June 06th, 2024 at 6:20 p.m. at Vista Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lewisville, Texas.
On June 26, 1954, she was united in marriage to George Baughman from Lexington, KY who preceded her in death in 1983. Three children became of this union who were Ty, Daryl, and Denise.
Mom known affectionately in Texas as Miss “B” was a 1948 graduate of Western High School in Owensboro, Ky. She loved and accepted the Lord at an early age and was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church for many years, before moving to Texas in 2010 to live out her remaining years near her son Ty Baughman, and his spouse Jannie.
She loved singing, painting, and latch hook rugs. Mom was an amazing cook. Our family always enjoyed eating her cooking after Sunday church services, and especially the holidays. Mom also helped dad run their restaurant for several years in Baptist Town. She was the main cook. Everyone loved her chili and malt milkshakes.
Mom’s biggest joy were her three children Ty, Daryl, and Denise. She dedicated the majority of her life going to band concerts, sports, and boy scouts’ activities. She also provided money and a space to help support our local R&B band when needed. There was nothing that mom wouldn’t do to support the needs of her children. Christmas was amazing around our house as she ensured there would be gifts for everyone and cookies for Santa. Although mom didn’t have a college education, she was wise to acknowledge and discuss the importance of a college education with her children.
She leaves behind to cherish memories and celebrate her life today Ty Baughman(son), (Jannie Baughman, spouse), Michelle Baughman Pounds (granddaughter, deceased) Denise Baughman Murphy (daughter), Daryl Jose’ Baughman (son, deceased), Charlanda Spragan (granddaughter) (Shawn Copeland), Amber Spragan (granddaughter), Darrin Baughman (grandson), Ny’Shawn Copeland (great-grandson), Nysariah Copeland (great granddaughter), Elijah Thornwell (great grandson), Torsie Judkins (step-grandson), Steveland Judkins, step-grandson, deceased).
