Wendell Brown Sims

November 27, 1940 - March 27, 2019

Wendell Brown Sims, 78, of Owensboro, passed away on March 27, 2019 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Wendell was born in Lewisburg, KY on November 27, 1940 to the late Seth Thomas and Viola Lee Rhodes Sims. Wendell served in the Kentucky National Guard, United States Army, was a United States Merchant Marine, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of Owensboro Christian Church. He was also an avid UK basketball fan and made sure to try and watch every game he could on TV. Wendell was a retired railroad conductor for the Norfolk Southern Railroad.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Calvin Sims, Leon Sims, Mary Maglinger, and Dorthy Dewey.

Wendell is survived by his daughter Wendy Lee Sims Hagan and her husband, Joe, of Whitesville; grandchildren, Collin Hagan, Hannah Hagan, Kelsey (Nick) Kirby, and Abbie (Anthony) Huggins; a sister, Betty Hardin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Wendell Sims will be 2 pm Monday, April 1, 2019 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Scott Kenworthy officiating. Visitation will be from Monday from 10 am until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Scherer cemetery in Stanley.
