Mike Wilson

Mike Wilson, 72, of Browns Valley, may have lost his battle with cancer on June 4, 2024 but he gained eternal life when he met his friend, Jesus Christ’s smiling face and warm embrace. He was born the third of six children to his loving parents, Jack and Lily Englert Wilson. Mike attended Blessed Mother School and graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School Class of 1970. As a boy, he became interested in helping with the addition of his childhood home on 25th Street. The die was cast and Mike Wilson Construction was in his future. He was a self-taught, well-respected custom home builder and re-modeler for 35+ years. Mike made a lot of friends along the way with his can-do attitude, pleasant personality and quick wit! Customers and sub-contractors alike found him enjoyable to work with. He took great pride and went to great lengths to ensure his customers were 100 percent happy with the end project. Mike supported his immediate family of eight tirelessly and will forever be appreciated for his selfless giving of more than his family could ever repay him for. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he was married and will be buried.

Thus said, he’s laying down a firm foundation in heaven for his family to follow which include his wife and best friend of 45 years, Teresa Wethington Wilson; six children, Jude (Abbi) Wilson, Danielle (Dr. Jonathon Becker) Wilson, Travis (Laura) Wilson, John Wilson, Dylan (Dr. Taryn) Wilson, and Jack (Hannah) Wilson. He proudly passed on his love of travel and appreciation of great music to his kids and they will continue to honor his memory in this manner. His delightful grandchildren who affectionately called him “Poppy” include Payton, Celia, Harper, Ruby, Eliza, Caroline, Salem and Avie. He is also survived by his siblings, Jack (Patti) Wilson, Elizabeth (Rick) Gardner, Colleen (Richard) Lewis, Sally (Steve) Sanders, and Blaise Wilson; in-laws, Mary (Andrew) Gordon, Paula (Mike) Garman, Jay (Dr. Andrea Moore) Wethington, Anna (Mark) May and Katie Wethington; aunts, Joan Englert and Kay Englert; uncles, Tom Englert and Jack (Joy) Englert; and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews and many devoted cousins.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church. James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, Mike’s memory can be carried on by a donation to the St. Joseph Peace Mission or Yewell Home For Boys, P.O. Box 1048, Owensboro, KY 42302 or anywhere that helps to promote peace and good will toward others.

The family wishes to thank everyone involved in Mike’s illness battle over the years, Dr. Keeley, Dr. Mullins, Dr. Thomas, Hospice nurse Kara, and the angelic team at the Heartford House, Tom Grimsley and Fr. Ray Clark.
