
Marylyn Sue Johnston Bruner, age 79 of Custer, KY passed away June 1, 2024 at her residence. She was born in Shelby County, KY on June 21, 1944, daughter of the late Frank Karr and Mary Ruth Moore Johnston. Marylyn was a member and pianist at Alexander Chapel for over 40 years as well as the pianist at Custer Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years and Amaranth for many years. She was a longtime member of the Breckinridge County Homemakers where she made lifelong friends and the Salvation Army Board of Directors, where she served as Vice President. Marylyn cared deeply for her community and always offered a helping hand to those who were in need. She was a caregiver for many children in the community and they lovingly referred to her as “Mamaw”. Marylyn enjoyed playing cards, making meringue pies and fruitcake cookies for her family and friends. Her family was her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Martin Bruner and siblings Karl Douglas, William Stephan and Laurence Stewart Johnston.
Marylyn is survived by her children: Martin Dale (Robin) Bruner of Clarksville, TN; Marvin Franklin “Frankie” (Diana) Bruner of Custer, KY; Marshall Robert “Bobby” Bruner of Custer, KY and Alyssa Susan (Carlos) Morales of Custer, KY
Foster son: Mark (Wanda) Allen of Cecilia, KY
Grandchildren: Laura (John) Crow, Katherine “Katie” (Jason) Door, Bridgett (Bryan) Bruner, Joshua “Josh” Bruner, Sara (Timmy) Pitts, Joseph Scott (Morgan) Bruner, Justin (Shavonna) Bruner, Lilliann “Lilly”, Trini and Miguel Morales, Micah Allen.
Great grandchildren: Thomas and Geraldine Crow, Maddie and Hank Door, Mason and Karson Pitts, Keith Oaks and Kora Bruner, Mia, Ava and George Bruner, Summer Maples, Carlie Geary and Cheyene Williams.
Sisters-in-law: Beverly Johnston, Earline Johnston and Brenda Boland
Many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 1 PM with burial in the Cook Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, 4-8 PM and Sunday after 10 AM. Eastern Star service will be held on Saturday at 6 PM. All times are central.
