William James Haliburton, Jr. 67 of Owensboro, surrounded by family and friends, transitioned to his Heavenly home at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital on Friday, May 24, 2024.

He was born to the union of the late William James Haliburton, Sr and Willie Mae Davis Haliburton on February 23,1957 in Cleveland, OH.

He spent his childhood in Philadelphia and graduated from Overbrook High School. He later moved to Cape May County, NJ. After high school William enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps along with some of his best friends from his Philadelphia neighborhood.

Owensboro was his home for the past 25 years.

He met, fell in love with, and married the love of his life, Belinda Haliburton on March 20, 2004. For 20 years, they were a living testimony that God never fails and is forever faithful.

William was a Chef by profession and for a span of more than 30 years his culinary career included Cook, Executive Chef, Catering Manager, and General Manager. During his 18 years at Sodexo USA, he worked for the accounts of Kentucky Wesleyan College, University of Evansville, and University of Southern Indiana. He was currently employed in the Dining on Call (DOC) division for Morrison’s Cafeteria at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

Professionally, William was respected and admired. He approached his work with integrity and commitment to excellence that inspired those around him. This commitment to excellence led to numerous awards in the culinary field. He enjoyed various genres of music, gardening, and sports. He was a passionate Duke basketball fan.

He was an active and dedicated member of Tenth Street Missionary Baptist Church where he served diligently as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Men’s Choir, and Finance committee. In addition, he enthusiastically gave God praise with his signature tambourine.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Collis Fields.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 20 years, Belinda Haliburton; two sons by marriage, John Robert Douglas of Shelbyville, KY and Bryan Thomas Kennedy (Laura) of St. Louis, MO, five grandchildren, Lauren Marie Douglas and Brianna Lynn Douglas of Shelbyville, KY, Myles Edward Kennedy, Sienna Pearl Kennedy and Mia Christine Kennedy of St. Louis, MO; one special great niece, Alise Janae Humphrey; one sister, Veronica Broughton (Barry) of Whitesboro, NJ; one brother, Thomas Fields of Whitesboro, NJ; four nieces, Justina Dailey (Kenneth) of Cape May Courthouse, NJ, Kim Humphrey (Garrett) of Mt. Juliet, TN Glenda Humphrey George of Lexington, KY and Kerseclia Patterson of Evansville, IN; five nephews Leon Linthicum (Dani) of Millville, NJ, Timmy Edwards of Whitesboro, NJ, Mark Edwards of Durham, NC, Bennie Fields, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, Garrett Humphrey (Kim) of Mt. Julie, TN; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. R.V. and Beverly Terry of Evansville, IN; special friends and cousins, Alfred and Kim Clark of Riverview, FL and an adopted Uncle and Aunt, Samuel and Rosie Tandy of Owensboro, KY.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Tenth Street Missionary Baptist Church. Officiant-Pastor Larry Lewis and Eulogist-Dr. R.V. Terry, Jr.
Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will be at Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum.
