
Bettye Darlynn Reynolds McCollum Fischer, 87, of Owensboro passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born on December 6, 1936 in Owensboro to the late Dora Sands Perkins and Hobert P. Perkins. Bettye was a proud member of Owensboro High School Class of 1955, was the 1955 Military Ball queen, and attended Kentucky Wesleyan College. In her early working years, she worked for Drs. Duncan and Ann Johnson as a receptionist. When her children were all in school, Bettye worked as a tutor and teacher assistant in the Daviess County School System from 1972 to 1983. When her grandson was ill, she stayed at home with him returning to work in the Owensboro Public School System from 1988 to her retirement in January 2000. Bettye was an officer in the Stanley School PTA. She was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Bettye was a past member of the Younger Women’s Club, a volunteer at Riverpark Center and a member of AARP Widowed Person Group. She was an active member of the Victorian Southern Belles Red Hats and was a Lady Kentucky Colonel.
The pride and joy of her life had always been her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her three sons, Jack William Reynolds, second husband, Robert McCollum, and her third husband, Joseph Fischer; sister, Glenda Wilber and her husband, Al Wilber; niece, Anna Perkins; and two stepsons, Kevin Fischer and Stephen Fischer.
Survivors include her sons, Todd Reynolds (Debbie), Brad Reynolds (Tammy Brandle) and Bryan Reynolds (Julie Crowe); grandchildren, Joshua Reynolds (Jennie), Ashley Phillips (Mike), Adam Reynolds (Allison), Zackary Reynolds, Brooklynn Williams (Riley), Allison Reynolds, Jeffrey Bowersox (Ruth) and David Bowersox (Sandy); great-grandchildren, Ashton Leah Reynolds, Laura Cate Phillips, Lucas Reynolds, Ezra Reynolds, Sybil Reynolds, Audrey Phillips, Mack Phillips, Judah, Calvin, and Deacon Bowersox, Matilda and Eleanor Percy-Bowersox, and Camron Shields; brothers, Dan Perkins (Liz) and Terry Perkins (Marsha); and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
