Roger Allen Coomes, 83, of Whitesville, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Hermitage in Owensboro. He was born on October 4, 1940 in Illinois to the late Marion and Lucy Howard Coomes. Roger was a boiler inspector for the State of Kentucky for 35 years. He was a long-time member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Roger was a member of the Rotary Club. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle, UK basketball and NASCAR racing. Most important to him was spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his brothers, Kenny and Glenn.
Roger is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Booker Coomes; sons, Michael Coomes and Brett (Tara) Coomes; grandchildren, Emma Grace and Benjamin Coomes; siblings, Frieda Moseley, Janice Martin, Lowell (Laquita) Coomes and Steve (Diane) Coomes and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, KY, with entombment following at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. With prayers at 7:00 p.m. at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, KY.
