On April 23, 2024, Beulah “Boots” Nelson was surrounded by loved ones as she ascended from this world into the arms of the Lord and Savior. Beulah’s Earthly journey began on June 9, 1943 when she was born to the late Mary Helen and Glenn Cornell in Webster County, West Virginia. After graduating Richwood High School, she moved to Washington D.C. where she met and married the love of her life, James H. Nelson.
After retiring from Daviess County High School, she enjoyed tending to her garden, watching her great-granddaughters, cooking homemade meals and caring for pets and family. She’s famously known for her Christmas candy.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Patrick “Jake” Nelson; brother, Jack Cornell; and her parents.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, James H. Nelson; children, James Nelson Jr., Denise Nelson, and John (Jenny) Nelson, all of Owensboro; grandchildren, Samantha (Cody) Cail, Johnny Nelson, Hunter Nelson, and Dylan Nelson; great-grandchildren, Elaina Cail and Emila Cail; brother, Glenn “Buster” Cornell; sisters, Barbara Hawthorne and Betty Jo Barker; and several nieces and nephews; in-laws and closest friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Western Kentucky and to Cordie Morris for caring for Boots in her last days.
Per Boots request, there will not be any formal services but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. James H. Davis Funeral Home was in charge of her arrangements.
