Lena Rearden Smiley, 91, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Signature Healthcare at Hillcrest. Lena was born June 16, 1932, in Ohio County to the late Elmer & Eva Rearden. Lena worked at General Electric and then MPD for 43 years before her retirement. She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church & in later years attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Ohio County where she grew up. She loved shopping trips with her sisters, family dinners at Moon-Lite, and family reunions at Legion Park.
In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Smiley in 1998; baby sister Shirley Jean in 1937; brother, Mike Rearden in 2019; and sister, Anne Smith in 2020.
Those left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Lana and son-in-law Eric Dryer; grandchildren, Courtney and Brad Dryer, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; sisters, Betty Hoover of Hartford, Earlene (Johnny) Haynes of Columbus, Georgia, and Lydia (Chester) Phelps of Owensboro; brothers, Paul Rearden of Hartford and E.J. Rearden (Bettie) of Owensboro; many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at Mt. Moriah’s Lake Family Cemetery on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 1 p.m. with Brother Tim Smith officiating. James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
