
Wanda Faye (Shelton) Newcom of Owensboro passed away on April 28, 2024, at the Heartford House, after a lengthy illness at Wellington Parc of Owensboro, KY. She was born in Livia, KY on July 4, 1939 to the late Ervin and Agnes (Davis) Shelton. She graduated from Utica High School in 1958, attended classes at Brescia College, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Wanda, known to her family as Faye, loved children and worked as a teacher’s aide in the Owensboro Public School system for twenty years. After retiring in 1991, she devoted herself to her grandchildren and to fund-raising efforts for the Charles Shelton Memorial. She loved to play bunko, was quick to tell you exactly what was on her mind, and was always ready to laugh and have fun.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Curtice Lee Newcom, her grandson, Evan Keith Bridges, and her seven siblings: Mary Jane Shelton, James Shelton, Edward Shelton, William Franklin Shelton, Charles Shelton, Dorthy Bradley, and Larry Shelton.
She is survived by her son, Curt Newcom (Lisa); her daughter, Lisa Neel (Leason); two granddaughters, Jade Bridges of Owensboro and Abby Nyquist (Austin) of Florida; and five great-grandchildren: Jasmine Bridges, Noah Hale, Rhodes Nyquist, Oliver Bridges, and Wells Nyquist.
Services will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that sympathies be expressed as donations to the Salvation Army.
