
Wilbur L. Wahl 92, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Heartford House in Owensboro. Wilbur Lee Wahl was born March 22, 1932 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late William Eck and Lucille Hulsey Wahl and was married to the former Mary Wanda O’Bryan on January 23, 2016. Wilbur’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
Wilbur’s professional life was characterized by his heroic service as a fireman for the City of Louisville, where he dedicated 32 years before his retirement. His courage and commitment to ensuring the safety of others earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he served. In addition to his civilian career, Wilbur proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Veteran, exemplifying the virtues of honor and patriotism throughout his life.
His interests were as varied as they were passionate. Wilbur had a love for cleaning, caring for, and detailing cars – a task he approached with precision and pride. His joy for fishing was matched only by his love for traveling and creating memories with his family and friends. Wilbur was also an avid University of Kentucky Basketball fan. These pastimes provided endless opportunities for laughter, storytelling, and the simple pleasure of companionship.
A man of faith, Wilbur was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and in recent years, had been attending Immaculate Catholic Church in Owensboro with his wife. His faith was a source of strength and comfort, guiding him through life’s challenges and celebrations.
Wilbur’s warmth, integrity, and jovial spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, the importance of service, and the enduring bonds of family.
In addition to his parents, Wilbur was preceded in death by a son, Mike Wahl; and by a sister-in-law, Joyce Wahl.
Wilbur Lee is survived by his wife of 8 years, Wanda Wahl; two sons, Rick Wahl (LaDonna) of Louisville and Tim Wahl (his fiancée, Amy) of Jeffersonville, Indiana; two step sons, Mike Moss of Owensboro and Keith Moss (Lisa) of Evans, Georgia; two step daughters, Vickie Nickells (Bud) and Kathy Blandford (Keith) both of Sorgho; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Peck Wahl of Calhoun.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery in St. Joseph, Kentucky. Friends may visit with Wilbur’s family from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Musters in Calhoun.
