Joseph Virgil Head, 92, of Whitesville passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at his home. Virgil was born in Hancock County on November 5, 1931 to the late Richard and Ada Payne Head. He retired from Green River Steel after 44 years of service. Virgil was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Foot Stompers Express cloggers. He loved music and enjoyed farming, but his greatest joys in life were his wife, children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Virgil is preceded in death by a son, Robert Head, a daughter-in-law, Angelita Head, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

Virgil is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jackie Head; children, Richard (Stephanie) Head, Randall Head, Patrick (Valerie) Head, Lisa (Larry) Graham, Gina (Bruce) Sloan, and Elaine (Adam) Beisner; daughter-in-law, Misty Head; grandchildren, Katie(Eddie) Apenbrinck, Richard “Joe” Head, Christopher Head, Laura (Kevin Sanders) Peveler, Tabatha (Danny) Roberts, Michael (Nicole) Mattingly, Jill (Corey) Evans, Brent Graham, Allie Graham, James Sloan, Jack (Myka) Sloan, Joshua Sloan, Isabella Sloan, Cooper Beisner, Landon Beisner, Oliver Beisner and Brady Beisner; great-grandchildren, Reed, Anthony and Thea Apenbrinck, Dylan and Dalton McBride, Hunter, Madalyn and Levi Roberts, Hadley, Chloe and Sophia Mattingly, Eleanor Evans and Jackson Graham, and a sister, Bertha Serich.

A funeral Mass will be said on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, KY with burial following at St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, KY from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with prayers at 5:30 p.m.
