Velva Dean Cherry, age 83, of Harned, KY passed away on April 14, 2024 in Tulare, CA. She was born in Gamaliel, KY on July 25, 1940 to Sammy and Nadine Cropper. She married Wendell Cherry on August 1, 1957 and they had three boys; Tim, Terry and Bob. She was a loving mother who felt that her greatest accomplishment was raising three good sons. She was a wonderful grandmother to her six grandchildren and blessed with 13 great grandchildren that she loved and enjoyed very much.
She worked as a seamstress for many years with Eleanor Beard Studio. She was a faithful member of the Garfield Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, sang in the choir and served in various other ways in the church. She was a great friend to so many who came to love and appreciate her wonderful sense of humor and all the joy she brought to others through her love and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wendell and her son Tim.
She is survived by her sons, Terry (Charlene) Cherry and Bob (LuAnn) Cherry, and her daughter-in-law Brenda Cherry.
6 grandchildren: Amelia (Pete) Anthony, Ashley (Josh) Spaulding, Sarah Cherry, Rebekah (Carlos) Gomez, Robert (Amber) Cherry and Ryan (Mallory) Cherry.
13 great grandchildren: Cloey, Cole, Abby, Emily, Levi, Bryce, Jeremiah, Ava and Aiden Anthony; Tara and Allie Spaulding; Isabel and Ethan Gomez.
She is also survived by her brother, Jack as well as two nephews; Clark and Clay Cropper and her niece, Suzanne Pippen.
Funeral Services will be held at the Garfield Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 11 AM with burial in the Garfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Monday, 4-8 PM and at the church on Tuesday, 9-11 AM.
