
James W. “Jim” Porter, 74, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away March 30, 2024 in Owensboro, Kentucky, doing what he loved to do, working on his vintage cars. Jim was an avid antique car collector and enthusiast. He was the precious son of Wayman “Webb” and Mary Porter born August 24, 1949 in Gary, Indiana. Jim worked 33 years for LTV Steel and later retired from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and was a lifelong welder for 50 plus years. He previously worked at the steel mills. He owned his own business, Steel City Welding, in Hammond, Indiana. Jim was a member of Hoffman Street Baptist Church and Garfield Masonic Lodge #569 in Hammond, Indiana.
Jim made a gift of organ donation to Kentucky Organ Donors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayman “Webb” Porter.
He is survived by his wife, June Porter of Crown Point, Indiana; son, James Wayman Porter II and grandson, James Wayman Porter III, both of Hammond; mother, Mary Porter of Owensboro; and a sister, Lu Ann Geary (Lee) of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, April 5, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
