
James William Payne, 75, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024 at his home while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born October 26, 1948 in Daviess County to the late William L. Payne and Mary C. Payne. James was a master mechanic and worked for Pepsi Cola for many years. He loved to go fishing and helping people. James was a member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Alissa Anne Payne; his companion, Jimmie Ann Payne; and a brother, Gary A. Payne.
Survivors include two daughters, Dawn Posey and Shannon Burroughs; 12 grandchildren, Josh Evans, Jessie Evans, Tyson Douglas, Jordan Payne, Kadi Payne, Dawsyn Burroughs, Dakota Burroughs, Eric Burroughs, Erica Burroughs, Alex McKinney, Brandon James, and Trista McKinney; many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Daniel M. Payne, Sr. and Donald E. “Donnie” Payne (Nancy); and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be at noon on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
