George L. McFarland Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Miami Valley South in the evening on Sunday, February 25th. George was born on January 18th, 1935 in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late George and Floy McFarland.
He met his wife Rella at the University of Evansville in 1958 and was then married in September of 1960. After serving his country, he then graduated from the University of Evansville in 1962 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Together with Rella and their three sons eventually moved to Dayton, Ohio where he worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base for over 35 years. He started as an entry-level engineer position and retired as the Supervisory Electronics Engineer at Wright Laboratories. While at Wright Patt, he worked closely on developing radar systems and was known by his colleagues for his unrivaled talent as a manager.
He loved traveling, spending time with his family, was an avid sports fan who could always be found tuning in to ESPN, and was a decades-long Bengals season ticket holder. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Darryl.
He leaves behind his wife Rella, his son Keith (Maria) McFarland, his son Ron (Mary) McFarland, his daughter-in-law Molly McFarland and his grandchildren, Stephanie, Kaylah, Georgia, Perry and Derek.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at H. H. Roberts Mortuary with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
