
Shawkat Ali, 76, of Owensboro passed away Saturday at his home. Born December 8, 1942 in Trinidad, Mr. Ali moved to the United States when he was 18 seeking a better life. He originally lived in New York City but eventually settled in Chicago where he was employed at Middleby Marshall. Due to his excellent work ethic and being well liked by all, Shawkat worked his way up and eventually became the Plant Manager. He enjoyed horse racing, the Chicago Cubs, and fishing where he earned the nickname “Catfish Ali”.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ali also was preceded in death by his wife, Sharron Ali in 2013; his 2 brothers and 9 of his 10 sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory include his three sons, Aftaz Ali, Byron Ali and wife Esther of Gross-gerau, Germany, and Antonio Ali and wife Erica; daughter, Sarrena Sampson and husband George all of Owensboro; 8 grandchildren, Mathis Ali, Samuel Ali, Logan Ali, Matthew Ali, Antonio Ali Jr., Erick Ali, Jacob Sampson, and Jaiden Sampson; sister, Kulsum Ali; numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Shawkat Ali will be 12:00 noon Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 to 7:00 and Thursday from 10:00 am until time of service.
