Richard Allan “Rick” Lasley passed away at the age of 55 on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Louisville, KY on June 17, 1968 to Anthony & Sheila Lasley.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Camp Lasley; his children Todd Lasley of Seattle, WA; Troy Lasley of Champaign, IL; Lauren Lasley of Elizabethtown, KY and Aaron Lasley of Hawesville, KY; his parents Anthony & Sheila Lasley of Nashville, TN; a sister Lynn & Thomas Bartrum of Nashville, TN, along with several nieces and nephews.
Faith, family and friends were the foundation of Rick’s life. He served many roles in life–husband, father, brother, son, teacher, principal, coach and sports fan. He believed in the promise of public education and had a great passion for serving others. He had recently retired from education after serving 32 years as teacher, coach, athletic director, and finally as principal, at St. Romuald, Cloverport, Hancock County, and Apollo High Schools. He also wrote two books about the importance of, and challenges to, our public education system. In these capacities, he touched the lives of countless young people.
Rick’s passion was not limited to his career, however. He enjoyed woodworking, fellowship, and being a part of the community. He loved spending time with friends and family, whether playing cards, listening to classic rock, hosting Super Bowl parties, cheering for his beloved Louisville Cardinals or Atlanta Braves, or just sitting around the campfire. These times, which he often referred to as “good times”, will be what many will always remember about him.
In addition to the love of his family and friends, Rick was sustained, especially during his recent health struggles, by his faith, his relationship with the Lord, and the community of his church, St. Rose of Lima. Through prayer and service, he exercised his faith and those who knew him were witness to his obedient and steadfast faith even in the most trying of times. His faith and love are a sure sign of the grace of God.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 20th, 2024 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Cloverport, Ky with burial following in Old St. Rose/McGavick Cemetery.
