John Thomas Dunn IV

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend John Thomas Dunn IV, 47, who was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

John was born on April 9, 1976, in Owensboro, KY. He graduated from Daviess County High School in 1994 where he excelled in sports – most notably soccer and baseball. He went on to Western Kentucky University where he made many new friends and earned B.S. degrees in both Computer Information Systems and Marketing. John went on to create a successful small business as a home improvement and landscape contractor in the Owensboro area where he served his many customers with meticulous love and pride with his dear buddy Jonah. To him, these weren’t simply his customers, they were an extension of his network of family and friends. John honed his trade skills through working alongside his dad over many years which will remain loved and cherished forever.

When we think of John and his life, we simply see the heart of a servant. He literally lived this out day by day, hour by hour, and minute by minute. The examples of his service and compassion are far too numerous to list here, but John spent his time on this Earth serving others. He had a compassionate heart for the elderly and lonely; spending time daily ensuring they were cared for and loved. He had a penchant for our youth and committed his life to giving them hope and refuge through many acts of kindness, giving, acceptance, and love. John had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed skiing, hiking, or climbing trails in Colorado; and, canoeing, boating, floating, or rafting on Rough River with family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his late grandparents Joseph “Nicky” Johnson, Betty Jean Johnson, John Thomas Dunn II, and Mary Adams Meyers.

John is survived by his parents, mom, Carol Ann Johnson, dad, John “Tom” Dunn III (Tammy), stepfather, Phil Roberts (Beverly), and stepmother Yavonda Dunn, all of Owensboro. Additionally, John is survived by his grandmother, Joy Dunn; siblings, Dave Roberts (Rachael) of Owensboro, Haley Cadima (Keith) of Louisville; and, stepsiblings Theda Brumfield (Tommy), Lindsay Rone, Rachel Brown, and Jeff Goodwin. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, whom he cherished.

We will hold a private funeral service to honor and celebrate John’s enduring impact on each of our lives. As a reminder and lasting memorial to John’s passion for service, please reach out and do something kind for someone in need in honor of John’s life of love.

Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory is both honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of John Thomas Dunn IV. Leave your messages of condolence for the family of Mr. Dunn and sign his virtual guestbook at www.haleymcginnis.com.
