Elenora Tichenor 87, of Hammond, Indiana, a beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024 at her home in Hammond, Indiana. Elenora Johnson was born July 20, 1936 in Island, Kentucky to the late Asa and Lida Johnson. Elenora was a cherished member of the Johnson family and grew to be a pillar of strength and love in her own family and community.
Elenora, affectionately known by her friends and family, was a woman of great character and resilience. After moving to Hammond, Indiana, she built a life filled with joy, hard work, and dedication to her loved ones. Elenora retired as a respected machine operator, a role in which she demonstrated her strong work ethic and attention to detail. Her colleagues remember her as a reliable and supportive team member, always willing to lend a hand or share a kind word.
Her faith was an integral part of her life, and in her earlier years, she was an active member of the Baptist faith community. Within the church, Elenora found a second family and a place to share her compassion and kindness with others.
Elenora’s interests were as warm and inviting as her personality. She had a passion for sewing, creating beautiful garments and gifts for her family and friends. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy and tranquility in the rhythmic hum of her sewing machine.
In addition to her parents, Elenora was preceded in death two sisters, Margie Lott and Dewia Lott; and by four brothers, Ballard Johnson, James Johnson, Carl Johnson, and Asa Johnson, Jr. The memories and bonds she shared with her family will remain a source of comfort and inspiration.
Family was the cornerstone of Elenora’s life. She is survived by her devoted children, Larry Tichenor and Sharon Tichenor, both of Hammond. Her legacy continues through her two grandsons, Alex Tichenor and Ryan Tichenor and a great-grandchild, Jade Tichenor, who will carry forward the values and love she instilled in them.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the Island Community Cemetery in McLean County. There will be no public visitation. Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel is handling the arrangements for Elenora’s family.
