Patricia Juanita Proffitt, 80, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Ohio County native was born July 23, 1943, to the late General Jackson “Pete” Goff and Carrie Mae Embry Goff. Patricia graduated from Ohio County High School, class of 1961. She received her master’s degree in Elementary Education and taught third and fourth grades initially at Lincoln and primarily at Newton Parrish Grade Schools. Mrs. Proffitt was an excellent teacher who genuinely cared for her students beyond the classroom. She would treat them to Dairy Queen and have pool parties at her house. Patricia continued to teach life lessons to her family and friends until her passing. Her kind and generous heart came naturally from her love of her own family which was everything to her. She loved Christmas and would “blow it out” when it came to gifts. Patricia enjoyed quilting and collecting coins and signed and numbered prints.
In addition to her parents, Patricia also was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Kenneth Proffitt in 2021, granddaughter, Stephanie Proffitt, all her siblings, Earlene Pirtle, Everett, Reathel, Cecil Goff, and Marie Goff who passed away at 10 years old from polio.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Pamela Douglas and husband Glen who she thought of and treated as a son; seven grandchildren who affectionately called her “Granna”, Samantha McGehee (Dylan), Aiden Douglas, Alisa Vanover (Steven), Misty, Chrissy, Jessica, and Matthew Douglas; ten great grandchildren, Haleigh Douglas, Kaleb, Ethan, Camden, Kyleigh, Kloey, Kairi, Annabelle, Raphael, and Lincoln; numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday, January 8 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with same day visitation from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Ohio County.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Owensboro Humane Society, 3101 W 2nd St, Owensboro, KY 42301.
