Mary Joyce Smith Hartz, 89, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away on December 30, 2023. She was born December 22, 1934, in Earlington, Kentucky, to the late Ezra and Mary Smith. Mary worked as a registered nurse, at Daviess County Regional Hospital, for more than 27 years before retiring.
Mary was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, The Secular Franciscan Order of Evansville, Indiana, and the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Club, Inc. In her spare time, she enjoyed making jewelry, painting, and drawing.
Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Dean Hartz; her sister, Anita “Kay” Linder; and her daughters, Mary “Beth” Jasper, Mary Ellen Tackett, and Rachel Snodgrass.
Mary is survived by her siblings, Shirley Crick and Ezra Smith, Jr. (Gloria); her children, Robert Hartz and Joseph “Mike” Hartz; as well as 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Precious Blood Catholic Church with Father Mike Clark officiating. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with prayers being said at 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory.
