
William “Bill” Allen Jackson, 85, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born February 7, 1938 in Fleming County, Kentucky to the late Allen and Thelma Gertrude Helphenstein Jackson. Bill played basketball for Kentucky Wesleyan College and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor’s Degree. He taught at Utica Junior High School and was the first basketball coach for Apollo High School. Bill was a manager at Long John’s Silver for 10 years and retired as Parks Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Owensboro, where he worked for 20 years. He was an avid bowler and held many local offices and was state president of the Kentucky Bowling Conference.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Jackson and a sister, Sue Ginn.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sandra Jackson; two sons, Edward Jackson and Michael Jackson (Marilyn); six grandchildren, Victoria Cresap (Wes), Landon Jackson, Rachael Jackson, Dillon Jackson, Mason Jackson, and Nicholas Jackson; one great-granddaughter, Amelia Cresap; a sister, Brenda Shupe; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sorgho. Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Since Bill loved the parks, the family requests planting a tree somewhere in his memory.
