Marietta (Ashton) Lowery

Marietta Lowery 76, of Hermitage, Tennessee passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023 at TriStar Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee. Marietta Ashton was born January 23, 1947 in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late John William and Lily Nadine Sanders Ashton and was married to Terry Ellis Lowery on October 19, 1974. Marietta’s life was a testament to her unwavering spirit of generosity and compassion.

Marietta’s anchor was her faith and her family, but she had a long tether as God guided her to West Africa, Ireland, Greece, and Germany. In every country on every continent, she worked magic in every dwelling, be it hut, apartment, camper, or house, transforming it into a place of beauty and hospitality. Countless friends have sat at her table sharing their joys and worries and receiving along with the coffee and cake, godly counsel. Her home was the center of her ministry.

Those who knew Marietta would describe her as the epitome of friendliness, kindness, and loving care. She approached every encounter with an open heart and a smile that could light up the room. Her passions were her family, her friends, and caring for others, whether it be through her missionary work or simply lending an ear to someone in need.

In addition to her parents, Marietta was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Terry Ellis Lowery, who died February 2, 2019.

Marietta is survived by her son, Ashton Lowery of Old Hickory, Tennessee; two sisters, Cassandra King (Bill) of Springfield, Tennessee and Regina Kirkman (Tim) of Owensboro; two nieces and two nephews, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews, each of whom she adored deeply.
