Gerald Douglas Oliver, 85, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on November 16, 2023 surrounded by loved ones at Western Kentucky Veterans Center. He was born on January 14, 1938 in Daviess County to the late Thurman Otto Oliver and Nora Louise Rice Oliver. He worked at Inland Container Corporation and was a member of Curdsville Baptist Church. Gerald was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Gerald was a very hard working, dependable, comforting man to be around and took pride in every aspect of his life. He worked hard to take care of the things dearest to him. Gerald loved his family, his land, and his horses. He has always been a man of very few words, but the words he spoke were meaningful. We will miss him dearly and are so grateful for the foundation he gave our family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bettye Oliver; son-in-law, Ron Grady; grandbaby, Jordan Alysa Bright; brother-in-law, Don Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Oliver.
He is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Grady; grandbabies, Krystal Hill (Matt), Autumn Durbin (Tristan) and Summer Gillim (Hayden); great-grandbabies, Addison and Lincoln Hill, Stone and Eleena Gillim, and Baby Durbin on the way; siblings, Joyce Johnson, Ronald Oliver, and Karen Benson (Donnie); and sister-in-law, Patsy Boyle.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Owensboro. Burial is in Pleasant Hill Community Cemetery in McLean County, KY. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.
