Mary Edith Payne Fikes, 90, of Owensboro, passed away on November 1, 2023. She was born August 21, 1933, in Knottsville, Kentucky to the late Lawrence Payne and Anna Wathen Payne. Mary worked at G.E. and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She enjoyed watching UK basketball and loved her grandkids.
Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Mark E. Fikes, and her siblings, George Payne, Mildred Bowlds, Paul Payne, Herman Payne, Kenny Payne, and Mary Elizabeth Corley.
Mary is survived by her son, Ricky (Judy) Payne; grandchildren, Rita (Lorin) Howard, Joanne (Jacob) Seaton, David (Misty) Payne, and Erin Payne; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joe (Carolyn) Payne, Barbara (Joe Bill) McKay, Ann Payne, and Ruth Ann Payne.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Fr. Pat Reynolds officiating. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with prayers being said at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory and again on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of charitable donations made payable to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
