James L. ‘Jim’ Wilson 83, of Beech Grove, Kentucky passed away peacefully at his home in Beech Grove on Sunday, October 15, 2023. James Leslie Wilson, a beloved family man, community member, and proud U.S. Army Veteran was born June 30, 1940 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late Conrad Ancle and Flora Mae Frashure Wilson, was Married to the former Ida Mae “Ige” Wolfe October 9, 1963 and was better known as ‘Jim’ to both his family and friends. Jim was known for his many skills, his unwavering love for his family, and his devotion to his faith.

Jim was a master of many trades, a man who could turn his hand to almost anything. He was a retired construction worker who built a reputation for his hard work, dedication, and expertise. His colleagues admired his tenacity and his ability to find solutions to any problem. His skills extended beyond the construction site, as he was also a well-known sewing machine mechanic. This unique talent was a testament to Jim’s versatility and his natural ability to fix just about anything.

Jim’s service to his country was another significant part of his life. As a U.S. Army Veteran, he served with honor. His service was a source of pride, imbuing him with a sense of duty and respect that he carried throughout his life. His experiences in the military shaped him into a resilient and strong-willed individual, traits that were evident in every aspect of his life.

Family was at the heart of Jim’s world. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, especially when it involved watching his grandchildren play sports. These were moments of pure joy for him, captured in the sparkle of his eyes and the broad smile that graced his face. He was their number one fan, always there to cheer them on, offering words of encouragement and sharing in their triumphs and defeats.

Jim was also a devout follower of the University of Kentucky basketball team, a passion he held dear. He would eagerly anticipate each game, relishing the excitement that came with supporting his team. This love for basketball was an integral part of his life, a hobby he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.

Family gatherings were another source of happiness for Jim. He was often the life of the party, his laughter and jovial nature making every occasion memorable. His love for his family was evident in these moments, his presence a constant source of joy and comfort. His family will remember him for his generous spirit, his unwavering support, and his infectious laughter.

A man of faith, Jim attended the Beulah General Baptist Church with his wife, Ige. His faith was a guiding force in his life, providing him with strength and solace. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ida M. “Ige” Wilson, who died January 27, 2018.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence Michael Wilson (Kellie) of Beech Grove; a daughter, Cora Lynn Liggett of Sebree; four grandchildren, Paige S. Wilson, Aaron M. Wilson (Gena), Logan J. Liggett, and C. Dylan Liggett; a great-grandson, Jenson M. Wilson; two brothers, Ancle Wilson of Owensboro and Victor Wilson of Beech Grove; and a sister, Gloria Troutman of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 20, 2023 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Jim Midkiff officiating. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County with Military Honors conducted by the McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5415. Friends may visit with Jim’s family from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday and from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday at Musters in Calhoun.
