John William Vanover JR. “JW” (88) of Lewisport, KY. passed away on September 29, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. John was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers as well as two sons; Hubert Anthony “Tony” and Glen Justin. A daughter Angela Leah, grandson Anthony Ernest “Ernie”, and son-in-law Terry Segar.
John leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 70 years, Mae Louise Kelly Vanover, their children: John William III (Pamela), Carl (Debbie), Clifford (Connie), Steven “Kelly” (Patricia), and LoriAnn Vanover- Segar. Twenty-two grandchildren; Joshua, Amy Nash, Ashley, Carla Barth (Sam), Kimberly Bowman (Brock), Derek (Dominique), James (Rebecca), Adam, Katie Franzman, Laura Rhodes, Bethany Hernandez, Kaitlyn and Hailey Koehler, Justin Holmes, Alexander, Sabrina, Jordyn-Grace Horn (Ethan), Cameron, Keelyn, Elijah, Noah, and Isaac Segar. Twenty-five great grand- children, and one great- great grandson. Two bonus daughters Paula Lee and Dana Underwood, a sister-in-law Peggy Vanover, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, and his dog Buddy.
John retired from Commonwealth Aluminum in 1997 after 30 years of employment. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lewisport where he enjoyed attending Wednesday and Sunday services as long as he was able. John loved being outside sitting in his swing watching the hummingbirds, old cars, watching westerns on TV and spending time with his family.
Services will be held at 3 pm on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport Chapel with burial following in Iron Ore Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1 pm until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in Lewisport, The Gideon’s or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
