Clarence L. Reynolds

January 10, 1922 - December 21, 2018

Clarence L. Reynolds of Owensboro passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield at the age of 96. Mr. Reynolds was a family man, a churchman, a manager, a civic volunteer and a community leader. Born in Canton, OK on January 10, 1922, he was the son of the late Clarence L. and Lenora Knoop Reynolds. Following his graduation from high school, he attended Asbury Seminary for two years before transferring to the University of Kentucky from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with High Distinction. Mr. Reynolds served in the South Pacific during World War II as a member of the United States Marine Corps.

Mr. Reynolds was devoted to Settle Memorial United Methodist Church where he had been a member since 1949. He had served as chairman of the Administrative Board, the Council on Ministries, the Building Committee, the Work Area on Education, the Work Area on Stewardship, and as a member of the Board of Trustees, a Lay Leader, Church School Superintendent and member of the Open Door and Couples Sunday school classes. His involvement with Methodism included serving as Chairman of the Camp Loucon Training and Retreat Center and Trustee for the Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children and Youth. Mr. Reynolds was a volunteer for the Mary Kendall Campus of Methodist Homes.

His career with General Electric spanned 34 years, where he was the manager of Microwave Circuit Modules and the Product Marketing Manager of Microwave Products, retiring in 1983. General Electric named it’s building at the corner of 9th and Lewis Streets the C.L. Reynolds Building.

Mr. Reynolds was committed to his community. He had been chairman and senior representative of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Elfun Society, President and Treasurer of the Owensboro-Daviess County Committee on Aging, and a board member of the YMCA, The Kentucky Wesleyan All-Sports All American Club, and the Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History. His service with Habitat for Humanity was as board member, President, Vice-President, Treasurer and working volunteer. He was an instructor and volunteer for AARP-IRS Tax-Aide program, preparing volunteer tax returns for elderly and low-income residents. He enjoyed his involvement with the No Name Club and the ROMEO Club, an acronym for Retired Old Men Eating Out.

Mr. Reynolds was preceded in death by his wife Suzy Reynolds who passed away October 7, 2018, and his sister Wynema Haigler.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters Linda Gentry and her husband Park, of Leitchfield, and Sharon Duke and her husband Greg, of Pensacola, FL; his grandchildren Eric (Loni) Gentry of Florence, KY, Lauren (Brandon) Beardsley of St. Augustine, FL, Megan (Nathan) Richter of Arlington, VA and Tabetha Duke of Pensacola, FL; his great-grandchildren Parker, Emery Lynn, and Griffin Gentry, Addisen and Kloe Beardsley, and Leighton and Graham Reynolds Richter; his brother Rodney Berger of Yukon, OK; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Reynolds will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 28 at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Leitchfield and from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Entombment with full military honors will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, Camp Loucon, or Habitat for Humanity of Owensboro.
