Joan Humphrey Thompson

September 1, 1931 - December 7, 2018

Joan Humphrey Thompson, 87, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at the
Riverside Care and Rehabilitation Center. Born in McLean County on September 1, 1931, she
was the daughter of the late Carter and Maurine Troutman Humphrey, married George W.
Thompson in 1950, and moved to Owensboro when George was employed with Texas Gas
Transmission Corporation.

Mrs. Thompson was a charter member of Bellevue Baptist Church and was very active in church activities. She held various responsibilities including Life Group Director, teacher, chair member, Kindergarten teacher, and served on various committees. She loved flowers and provided them for services and decorated the church for special events. She also planned and coordinated numerous weddings. In addition to her parents she was
preceded in death by her husband, George Thompson in 1995; a brother, Gerald Humphrey;
sisters, Judy Worth and Laquita Yeiser Alvey; and a son-in-law, Don Raines.

Surviving are her daughters, Melanie Raines of Owensboro and Nanette (Dr. Jay) Beard of
Henderson; grandchildren, Andrew (Shannon) Raines of Owensboro, Emilie (Tim) Haysley of Ft

Carson, CO, Christina Raines of Owensboro, and Lauren Beard of Henderson; great-
grandchildren, Mallory Raines, Natalie Raines, Audrey Raines, Madelyn Haysley, Caroline Whitaker, and Brayden Beard; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Greg
Faulls officiating. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until funeral
time on Monday.
