Owensboro Catholic swept Muhlenberg County, while the Apollo boys’ team also won. In other action, Hancock County lost to Meade County.
Apollo Vs. Edmonson County
Apollo swept Edmonson County the boys 3-2. For the Eagles, Ben Halbig and Noah Crider won their singles matches, while the doubles team of Halbig and Caleb Hall won 8-1.
Hancock County Vs. Meade County
Playing for the second straight day, Hancock County was unable to build on their momentum, as the boys and girls teams both lost to Meade County, 3-2 and 5-0. For the Hornets, Payne Pence won his singles match, while the doubles team of Tre Condon and Van Reska won.
“The boys got up 2-0 after Payne Pence won his singles match as the number two,” Hancock County head coach Dan Hopkins said. “He’s really coming on. Our second doubles team won, with Tre London adding a real spark there, but our normal number two singles player was out. That affected our singles strength, with a beginner at number three. The two matches that went to overtime last time, lost in straight sets. Lucas, our number one, lost some rhythm from being off for two weeks. Meade has a strong girls’ team. We fought hard, and we will learn from it and get back to it Thursday against Butler County”.
Owensboro Catholic Vs. Muhlenberg County
It was another dominant performance for Owensboro Catholic, as both the boys’ and girls’ teams won 9-0. For the Aces, Ollie Haines, Jack Haines, Joseph Merchant, Henry Haines, Ben Haines, and Luke Pfeifer all won their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Ben Haines and Henry Haines, Jack Haines and Merchant, and Colton Jones and Nick Williams all won.
On the Lady Aces side, Ellas Cason, Lexi Moyers, Madison Clark, Sophia Merchant, Mary Grace Edge, and Gabi Moyers all won their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Clark and Merchant, Edge and Moyers, and Paige Hamilton and Reagan Hamilton all won.
“We moved some players around on both teams and everyone responded positively,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Noel Clayton said.
