A vehicle pursuit that began in Indiana ended in Daviess County on Monday morning after a suspect crashed a stolen police cruiser and fled on foot, according to a release from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident began around 9:30 a.m., when Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch was notified that a Rockport Police Department officer was in pursuit of a stolen Chandler (Indiana) Police Department cruiser. The chase crossed into Kentucky on U.S. Highway 231 via the William H. Natcher Bridge.
Deputies with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to assist, and were informed en route that shots had been fired and the suspect may have been wounded.
Deputy Tommy Ferry located the scene near the intersection of Terminal Road and U.S. 60 East, in the Maceo area. According to the release, the stolen cruiser had been wrecked just off the roadway and the suspect had fled westbound through a field.
Deputy Ferry and the Rockport officer pursued the suspect approximately 300 yards into the field, where the suspect resisted arrest and attempted to fight the officers. The sheriff’s office said Deputy Ferry deployed a taser to subdue the individual, who was unarmed but tried to strike officers with a motorcycle helmet during the struggle.
Once arrested, it became apparent the suspect had been shot during the earlier events before entering Kentucky. Authorities said the suspect was bleeding heavily from multiple wounds to the chest.
Emergency responders with the Daviess County Fire Department and AMR Ambulance Service arrived at the scene. The suspect was transported out of the field by a 4×4 vehicle and then taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where they remain under guard pending extradition to Indiana.
The suspect was identified as Nina Adaline Devillez, 31, of the 600 block of South Sleigh Bell Court in Santa Claus, Indiana. Charges in Kentucky include fleeing or evading police (second degree), criminal trespass (third degree), resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct (second degree.
Devillez will face additional charges in Indiana for crimes committed there, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
