Owensboro Police arrest suspect in Gardenside Drive shooting

The Owensboro Police Department has arrested a suspect following a shooting Monday afternoon in the 1000 block of Gardenside Drive.

Officers responded to a report of a firearm discharge around 5:45 p.m. and found a male victim with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and leg in the 2700 block of Flamingo Avenue, according to police. The victim was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses provided officers with the suspect’s name and a description of their clothing. Authorities said they quickly located 22-year-old Noah Sheriff, who fled but was apprehended nearby. Police reported that evidence of drug trafficking was seized when the Sheriff was taken into custody.

Sheriff has been charged with assault (first degree), wanton endangerment (first degree, three counts), fleeing or evading police (second degree, on foot), and trafficking in marijuana (less than eight ounces, first offense with enhancement).

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division assisted with the investigation and interviewed the suspect.

Authorities believe the incident to be isolated.
