With the threat of severe weather and potential tornadoes this evening, several places will open their doors as emergency shelters.

Those planning to seek shelter are strongly encouraged to go when a Tornado Watch is issued or sooner, rather than waiting for a Tornado Warning, which is issued when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar.

Current shelter locations include:

Daviess County

(per the Daviess County Emergency Management Agency)

  • Yellow Creek Baptist Church
    5741 KY 144, Owensboro
This shelter will open if and when the tornado sirens are activated. If you plan to use this location, do not wait until sirens sound to head there — go as soon as a Tornado Watch is issued.
  • Stanley Baptist Church
    351 Church Street, Stanley
Doors will open at 10 p.m. and remain open until the threat has passed. Use the basement entrance located on the left side of the church.
  • Owensboro Christian Church (Entrance A)
    2818 New Hartford Road, Owensboro
This shelter is wheelchair accessible and will open at 10 p.m. It will remain open until 5 a.m. or until the threat has passed.
  • Metro Pentecostal Church
    6500 US 231, Utica
This shelter opens at 10 p.m. and will stay open until the threat has passed.
Pets are welcome, but they must be in cages, carriers, or kennels. You are allowed to stay with your pets, but they must remain inside the containment at all times.
