The Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation (GOEDC) has announced the launch of Elevate Owensboro, a new mentorship initiative designed to help local entrepreneurs and small business owners succeed through direct connections with experienced business leaders.
Set to begin July 1, the program’s inaugural coaching cycle will feature five mentors paired with five entrepreneurs for one-on-one monthly sessions over a six-month period. Applications for the first round are open now and will close May 16, with match announcements expected by June 13.
“This initiative reflects our deep commitment to nurturing business leaders who will drive Owensboro-Daviess County’s next wave of growth,” said Claude Bacon, GOEDC President and CEO. “By connecting small business owners and entrepreneurs with experienced mentors, we’re giving them a chance to learn from those who’ve already walked the path—sidestepping pitfalls, seizing opportunities, and ultimately building stronger, more resilient businesses that fuel our region’s economy.”
Kevin Humphrey, Founder and CEO of Hollison, will serve as the first official mentor in the program.
“When I started Hollison, I knew of several successful businessmen in Owensboro, but I did not know them personally,” Humphrey said. “Some of the greatest success stories of this city were willing to sit with me — just a kid off the farm with an idea — and provide guidance and share experiences. I can never repay that gift they shared with me, but I hope to pass it on through this new initiative, Elevate Owensboro.”
Participants will be matched with mentors based on industry experience and personal goals. The program aims to provide strategic coaching, peer networking opportunities, and access to curated resources to support both early-stage startups and existing small businesses.
