Owensboro Health Regional Hospital will host a dramatic crash simulation Wednesday morning as part of “Ghost Out,” an annual event designed to discourage impaired driving among local students.
The simulation will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Owensboro High School and continue at 10:30 a.m. at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The event is presented in partnership with Owensboro Public Schools, Owensboro Police Department, Owensboro Fire Department, American Medical Response, Air Evac, Owensboro Health Trauma Services, Haley McGinnis Funeral Home, J&D Towing and Repair, Daviess County Detention Center, and Cinderella’s Closet.
Ghost Out is kept under wraps until the morning of the event to preserve the element of surprise for students — mimicking the suddenness of real-life tragedies caused by impaired driving.
“This simulation creates a powerful and emotional experience for students, helping them understand the real consequences of impaired or distracted driving,” Owensboro Health officials said in a media advisory.
Agencies participating in the event will simulate a fatal crash scene, complete with emergency response vehicles, hospital staff involvement, and even a mock funeral procession.
The public is advised not to be alarmed by emergency activity at either site, as it is a controlled educational event.
