DCSO: Multiple arrests made during warrant operation by Daviess County Sheriff’s Office

Four people were arrested Wednesday following a warrant operation conducted by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office in northwestern Owensboro.

According to a release from the DCSO, detectives with the Special Investigations Unit, assisted by Patrol Division deputies, targeted multiple locations near the 2300 Block of West Second Street in an effort to locate individuals with active arrest warrants.

The release states that detectives arrested four wanted suspects, three of whom were actively engaged in criminal activity at the time of their arrest. Several new charges were filed as a result, and various items were seized during the operation, including methamphetamine, digital scales, glass pipes, syringes, marijuana, grinders, and plastic baggies. According to the release, all evidence was logged into the DCSO property room, and the suspects were taken to the Daviess County Detention Center.

The individuals arrested were identified as follows:

  • Cheryl L. Smith, 64, of the 1300 Block of West Second Street, was charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st degree (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

  • Samantha Vansickle, 45, of the 2300 Block of West Second Street, was charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st degree (2nd offense, methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, an indictment warrant from Daviess County Circuit Court, and failure to appear in Jefferson County Circuit Court.

  • Martin Lynn Hay, 56, of the 3700 Block of Ashbyburg Road, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree (1st offense, methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.

  • David Ward, 50, of the 2300 Block of West Second Street, was charged with a probation violation for a felony offense, along with three counts of failure to appear—two from Daviess County District Court and one from Daviess County Circuit Court.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office said operations like this are part of their ongoing efforts to locate wanted individuals and remove dangerous substances from the community.
