McLean County Judge-Executive Curtis Dame has issued a curfew for the unincorporated areas of the county, effective April 8. Dame said the move comes in response to ongoing flooding and recent issues with trespassing.

The order follows a State of Emergency declared by both Gov. Andy Beshear and Dame due to a severe weather system that brought heavy rain, damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes. Those conditions have led to major flooding along the Green River and its tributaries.

Under the executive order, residents in unincorporated areas must remain off public property between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily. The curfew will remain in place until further notice.

“This order comes as a preventative measure to address issues with trespassing and other issues that have already been witnessed in our county,” Dame said in a message posted Tuesday evening. “Please allow our community to get through this flood together.”

Dame’s message said each city in the county will choose its own rules based on their local jurisdiction.

The order does not apply to individuals traveling home directly from religious services or work, provided they return within one hour of the event ending or their shift concluding.

Law enforcement may issue citations to violators, and probable cause will be required for enforcement.

Each city within McLean County will determine its own response based on local jurisdiction, according to the order.

President Donald Trump has approved Kentucky’s emergency declaration, allowing FEMA to assist with disaster relief efforts across the state.
