The Kentucky Bluegrass Allstars will again open the Saturday lineup at the ROMP Festival this summer, marking the 22nd consecutive year the student group has performed as part of the annual event. Registration is open now for those interested in joining the music group.
The Allstars are made up of students who complete spring group lessons through the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum in Owensboro. Classes begin April 29 and are open to anyone age 9 or older — including adults — interested in learning fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, or participating in a bluegrass band.
“Every year, students who participate in the spring group lessons perform on the ROMP stage,” said Randy Lanham, education director at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum. “The students come from all backgrounds, age groups, and skill levels. They are paired with seasoned instructors who help them not only to learn how to play some of the classic bluegrass tunes but also help them learn to play with other students, jam skills, and learn the nuances of performance.”
Those who complete the semester will earn a chance to perform at ROMP 2025 and will receive three single-day ROMP tickets (a $225 value), a free ROMP student T-shirt, three months of free online video lessons, and access to a loaner instrument during the course. Tuition is $95 for the first family member and $50 for each additional class or family member.
Scholarships are available by request via email at [email protected].
The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of bluegrass music. The museum hosts the annual ROMP Festival, which draws more than 20,000 attendees each year.
