Daviess County beat the Aces in a game that went nine innings, while Apollo and Owensboro both lost.
Daviess County 12, Owensboro Catholic 9
Noah Ranburger and Lucas Ward combined for six hits and 5 RBIs to power the Panthers past the Aces 12-9. Trailing 9-8 entering the top of the seventh, the Panthers tied it on a wild pitch to send it to extra innings. Sean Page scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth to give Daviess County a 10-9 lead and Ward followed it up with a two-run double for some much-needed insurance runs.
Brodie Tucker started on the mound, allowing three earned runs over four innings. Brett Poole, Benjamin Watkins, and Weston Lawrence all pitched out of the bullpen, allowing a combined six earned runs over five innings, while striking out five.
“We had some good pitching when we needed it,” Daviess County head coach Austin Clay said. “I was really proud of the way our guys fought back when we were down. We had 15 guys contribute and it was a good team win.”
For the Aces, Parker Heistand homered twice and drove in seven, while Barrett Evans and Jake Muphy had three hits each. Jaxson White was the starting pitcher, allowing two earned runs over four innings, while striking out five. Gentry Atwell and Evans both pitched in relief.
“I am seeing progress, and we had some good at-bats from several guys,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Jody Hamilton said. “I am glad to see Parker come alive, while Barrett and Murphy had good evenings. I feel that not playing for a week hurt, especially pitching. We’ll keep working and figure it out.”
McCracken County 6, Apollo 4
Scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth, Apollo couldn’t hold onto the lead, losing to McCracken County 6-4. Ty Lilllpop, Gunnar Hendricks, Ryleigh Logan, and Sam Holder all drove in runs, while Jagger Pate and Ross Millburn had two of the Eagles’ six hits. Grayson Smith started on the mound, giving up one run (unearned), striking out four. Millburn pitched the last three innings out of the bullpen, allowing one earned run and striking out one.
Meade County 2, Owensboro
The Red Devils offense never fully got going, losing to Meade County 2-0. Brady Benjamin finished 2-3, while Blake Kimbrell and Evan Hampton had the teams other two hits. Will Hume gave up two runs (unearned) over four innings, while Will Rickard threw two shutout innings in relief.
