Verizon customers in Owensboro and Daviess County may be unable to reach 911 due to a service outage affecting the carrier, according to local law enforcement agencies.

The Owensboro Police Department and Daviess County Sheriff’s Office are advising Verizon users to instead call 270-687-8888 and press option 4 to reach Central Dispatch in case of an emergency.

“This is on Verizon Communications’ end and not with Central Dispatch,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a public statement. “This only affects Verizon cell phone users.”

Officials urge residents to follow their local agencies on social media for updates.
