Over the weekend, Daviess County tennis split with Grayson County, while Owensboro Catholic split in their tri-match.
Daviess County Vs. Grayson County
Competing against Grayson County, the Lady Panthers cruised to a 9-0 win. Emmie Kate Williams, Jenna Faulkner, Maddie Meyer, Ellie Dever, Claire Dunlay, and Kate McCain all won their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Meyer and Alexa Salamah, Ella Boswell and Kate Williams, and Kate Masson and Maddy Brown all won.
The boys team fell just short 5-4. Landon McDuffee, Eli Bivens, and Walt Yeiser all won their singles matches, while the doubles team of McDuffee and Bivens also won.
“The boys could have won, but they lost two very close matches in a tiebreaker,” Daviess County head coach . “Winning one of them would have guaranteed the win, but we know what we need to work on. I was very proud of the girls sweeping a good Grayson County girls’ team. We are only going to get better.”
Owensboro Catholic
Competing against McCracken County and South Warren in a tri-match, the Owensboro Catholic girls’ team dropped both matches 4-1. Ella Cason won her singles match against South Warren 6-0, 6-0, and 6-4, 6-0 against McCracken County. Despite the loss, Owensboro Catholic head coach Noel Clayton is proud of the way his team continues to improve.
On the boys’ side, they emerged victorious, beating both South Warren and McCracken County 4-1. Against South Warren, Oliver Haines and Jack Haines both won their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Houston Danzer and Joseph Merchant and Luke Pfeifer and John Wathen both won.
In the McCracken County match, Jack Haines, Oliver Haines, and Henry Haines all won, while Danzer and Merchant won their doubles match.
They will be back in action Tuesday when they take on Muhlenberg County.
