Owensboro Dance Theatre is bringing its annual “In Concert” production to the RiverPark Center this weekend. This year’s show will be presented in two acts, blending classical and contemporary dance with theatrical storytelling. The second act reimagines the whimsical world of Willy Wonka & The Golden Ticket, complete with flying sequences, digital effects, and a cast of more than 200 local performers.

“This vibrant production offers something for everyone,” said Joy Johnson with ODT. “It’s a showcase of local talent, creative storytelling, and the magic of live dance.”

Performances are scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Act I will highlight the talent of ODT’s pre-professional company members, featuring solos by graduating seniors Maddie Burshears, Charley Hicks, and Annie Iracane. The act includes a tap number by Ashley Ayer-Martin and Boggess, a special performance by members of the Green River Area Down Syndrome Association, and a tribute piece titled In Memoriam by Maegan McHale Hobbs. The first act concludes with Volt, a high-energy work choreographed by Jon Lehrer of the Jon Lehrer Dance Company.

Act II transforms the stage into the fantastical world of Willy Wonka, offering a fresh take on familiar characters and songs. Johnson said the production includes “eye-catching costumes, dazzling digital effects, and the unforgettable flying Wonkavator.”

In addition to the public performances, ODT is hosting three school shows during the week, giving students from across the tri-state area the opportunity to attend.

Sponsors for this year’s performance include Domtar Hawesville Paper Mill, First United Bank and Trust Company, Daviess County Teachers Federal Credit Union, the Michael E. Horn Family Foundation Inc., and Advantage Eye Care.

“Whether you’re a longtime supporter or attending for the first time, this show promises to be a highlight of the season,” Johnson said.

Tickets are available at riverparkcenter.org.
