Friday After 5 is gearing up for its 29th season with new leadership at the helm and a refreshed plan aimed at keeping Owensboro’s riverfront the place to be on Friday nights. The most notable change is utilizing only two concert stages — McConnell Plaza and the Overlook Stage — for a centralized approach and focus on quality programming.
The free summer concert series will return May 16 and run through August 1. McConnell Plaza will serve as the central hub for main stage performances, while the Overlook Stage at Smothers Park will feature additional acts. Street vendors, food trucks, and other attractions will line Veterans Boulevard and surrounding streets as part of the Street Fair.
The 2025 season will kick off activities at 5 p.m. each Friday, with Overlook Stage programming from 6 to 8 p.m. and main stage concerts from 7 to 10 p.m. CDT. Organizers said the full lineup of performers and activities will be announced soon.
“We couldn’t be more excited for the season,” said Brad Howton, the newly appointed chair of the festival’s board. “We have a new executive committee and board dedicated and committed to strengthening the incredible tradition of Friday After 5. Our goal is to continue building upon the fantastic work of previous leadership to make downtown Owensboro the place to be on Friday nights for years to come.”
Howton said the board invested substantial time listening to fans, sponsors, vendors, and partners.
“Those discussions have brought us to an exciting plan to refresh and refocus the weekly concert series and street fair,” he said. “With a centralized approach and a focus on quality programming for our fans, we are confident this will be one of the best seasons yet.”
The Eric Group will continue its role in booking talent, managing production, and overseeing operations for the concert series.
“We intend to continue the record-smashing trends from last season and present some of the most desirable and exciting acts each week,” said Heath Eric, CEO of The Eric Group. “Friday After 5 will undoubtedly be the region’s weekly destination in downtown Owensboro, drawing thousands of fans each night to enjoy the concerts and festivities, then patronize local businesses.”
The Friday After 5 board recently named its new executive committee, which includes Howton as chair, Anthony Hamby as vice chair, Gabby Knight as treasurer, and Charlotte Newton as secretary.
This season will also mark the beginning of a three-year title sponsorship from Jagoe Homes, whose owners Bill and Scott Jagoe said supporting Friday After 5 fits with their company’s focus on building strong, thriving communities.
Organizers said sponsorship and vendor opportunities are still available for the upcoming season.
