A man was cited Tuesday morning following a hit-and-run crash on the Wendell Ford Expressway (commonly called the bypass) that left both drivers injured, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities responded at approximately 6:20 a.m. to the 1900 block of U.S. 60 after a caller reported the crash, according to DCSO. The caller told deputies he was traveling east when a Ford F-250 entered the highway from the KY 54 on-ramp, crossed all eastbound lanes, and suddenly slowed to make a U-turn. The caller said he was unable to stop in time and struck the F-250, causing significant damage to both vehicles, authorities said.

Following the impact, the driver of the F-250 completed the U-turn and left the scene, traveling west on U.S. 60, according to the DCSO. The caller’s vehicle was disabled in the eastbound lanes, and he suffered a head injury, the release says. AMR medics treated him at the scene.

Deputies later located the F-250 in the 2400 block of KY 54. The truck had damage consistent with the wreck, and the driver also had a head injury, according to DCSO. The driver told deputies he was unaware he had been involved in a crash.

The F-250 driver was cited for leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid. AMR medics also treated him at the scene.

Eastbound U.S. 60 at KY 54 was closed for about an hour while the wreck was cleared. Other responding agencies included the Daviess County Fire Department, Thurston Fire Department, and AMR.
